September 5, 2026 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at Cottage Street about 1:10 p.m. on September 4.

The suspect, Jhoan Gomez, 19, is charged with murder in the 488th Criminal District Court. A booking photo of Gomez is attached this news release. 

The identity of the victim is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives A. Finlay and B. Stephens reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call at the above address and located a vehicle crashed into a curb with a male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds inside. Responding Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the male deceased at the scene.

Further investigation identified Gomez as the suspect. HPD's Central Patrol Division's Crime Suppression Team located the suspect and arrested him. 

Investigators consulted the Harris County District Attorney's Office and the suspect was subsequently charged and booked into the Harris County jail.
