April 06, 2026 - Houston police have arrested a suspect charged in the fatal shooting of a woman found at 2831 Laura Koppe Road about 1:50 p.m. on March 30.

The suspect, Eric Eugene Goosby, 48, is charged with murder and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon in the 495th Criminal District Court. Goosby's booking photo is attached to this news release.

The victim is identified as Monica Olivarez, 50.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives A. Finlay and B. Stephens reported:

Houston Fire Department personnel found the unresponsive female inside an apartment after responding to a person down call. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

HPD patrol officers learned neighbors heard gunshots around 9 p.m. on March 29 and saw a male, believed to be the victim's boyfriend, leaving the apartment alone.

Further investigation identified Eric Eugene Goosby, the boyfriend of the victim, as the suspect in this case. Detectives consulted the Harris County District Attorney’s Office and Goosby was subsequently charged.

Officers with the HPD South Central Patrol Division Crime Suppression Team, Northeast Patrol Division Hotspot Team, Metro Police Department, and the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force arrested Goosby on April 2. He was then booked into the Harris County jail.
