• Almeda Community Center Closed – April 28, 2025 - Until Further Notice.
  As of April 28th, the Almeda Community Center was closed due to repairs and renovations. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. To stay connected to the HPARD family, please consider visiting our nearby locations for your recreational activities:

• Blackhawk Park Closed – Oct 7, 2025 - Until Further Notice.
  Blackhawk Park was closed due to electrical service out October 7, 2025, until further notice.
• Buffalo Bayou Trail Closed – Jan 31, 2026 - Until Further Notice.
  Beginning January 31, the Houston Parks Board is closing the Buffalo Bayou Trail near Downtown to fix a blind spot. Click here for maps and detour information.
• Castillo Playground Closed – Jan 14, 2025 - Until Further Notice.
  Castillo playground was removed January 14, 2025. Due to age and parts are obsolete.
• Cullinan Park North Parking Lot & Playground Area Closed – Aug 29, 2025 – Spring 2026
  The playground area and north loop of the parking lot is closed starting September 2, 2025. The project includes a new playground area, pavilion, pedestrian walkways, site furnishings, fencing, landscaping, detention pond and other site improvements.
• DeZavala Community Center Closed - January 29, 2026 - Until Further Notice.
  DeZavala Community Center was closed January 29, 2026 due to water leak repairs.
• Dodson Lake Playground Closed - Jun 29, 2025 - Until Further Notice.
  Dodson Lake playground removal due to age and obsolete parts June 29, 2025, until further notice.
• Emancipation Community Closed - Oct 1, 2025 - June 30, 2026.
  Beginning October 1st, 2025 – June 30th, 2026, the Emancipation Cultural Center and Outdoor grounds was closed due to construction and renovations. We asked for your support and patience through this process as we create an amazing space for the entire community to enjoy for years to come.
  Note: The Recreation Center will continue to operate under normal business hours.
• Fleming Playground Closed - Aug 14, 2025 - Until Further Notice.
  Fleming playground is closed for repairs August 14, 2025 until further notice.
• Fonde Park Closed - Apr 6 - 20, 2026.
  Fonde Park is closed due to the Trail Resurfacing April 6 to April 20, 2026.
• Fonde Park Playground Will Be Closed – Apr 20, - May 29, 2026.
  Fonde Park Playground will be closed for playground improvements from April 20 to May 29, 2026.
• George Nelson Playground Closed - Jun 29, 2025 - Until Further Notice.
  George Nelson playground removal due to age and obsolete parts June 29, 2025, until further notice.
• Herman Brown Park Is Out of Service - Mar 25, 2026 - Until Further Notice.
  Herman Brown Park electricity is out of service. Including Baseball Fields, Soccer Mini Courts, and Pavilion.
• Houston Gardens Park Play Structure Closed - Feb 24, 2026 - Until Further Notice.
  The Houston Gardens Park play structure is closed, fenced and scheduled for demolition due to age and deterioration. Funding and schedule for play structure replacement is currently pending.
• Independence Heights Community Center Closed - Apr 13 - Oct 19, 2026
  The current schedule has the Independence Heights community center will be closed on April 13, 2026, with construction starting on April 16, 2026 for a 6-month period with the anticipated reopening date of October 19, 2026.
• Kerr Basketball Pavilion Closed - Oct 24, 2025 - Until Further Notice.
  Kerr basketball pavilion was closed October 24, 2025 due to roof repairs until further notice.
• Linkwood Community Center Closed – Jun 30, 2025 - Until Further Notice.

  Linkwood Community Center: Due to inadequate cooling from the temporary air conditioning units currently in place, Linkwood Community Center is unable to maintain a safe and comfortable indoor environment. As a result, the Summer Enrichment Program has been temporarily relocated to Platou Community Center, located at:

  (Approximately 3.4 miles from Linkwood)

  This move is a temporary measure as we work to resolve the cooling issues at Linkwood. All program activities and staffing will continue as scheduled at the new location. We appreciate the patience and understanding of our families and community members during this time.

• MKT Hogan Street Pedestrian Bridge Closed - Sep 22, 2025 - Until Further Notice.
  The MKT Hogan Street Bridge was closed due to severe structural damage posing safety concerns. Construction and rehabilitation of the MKT Trail pedestrian bridge at White Oak Bayou began on Monday, September 22, 2025. As a result, the trail/sidewalk was closed during the construction period (09/22/2025 – 12/22/2025). Please see map for reference. Detour routes are shown here ( PDF). • Scott Crest Playground Closed - Jun 29, 2025 - Until Further Notice.
  Scott Crest playground removal due to age and obsolete parts June 29, 2025, until further notice.
• Stude Pool Closed Jul 10, 2025 - Until Further Notice.
  Due to a shortage of bleach, the Stude Pool is closed July 10, 2025, until further notice.
• Tidwell Pool Closed - Dec 17 2025 - Until Further Notice.
  The demolition of the Tidwell pool started Wednesday, December 17, 2025 in preparation for the new Tidwell Aquatic Center, until further notice.
• Tony Marron Park Closed - Jan 31 - Early 2027.
  Tony Marron park was close to the public for construction on January 31st and won’t reopen until early 2027.
