Emergency Preparation Resources For Youth

Youth Emergency Preparedness Banner

Houston is a very resilient city that has mitigated and managed a variety of emergencies and as a natural disaster-prone city, emergency preparedness is our core priority. The youth engagement situational analysis, conducted by the MOEYE, highlighted children’s increased vulnerability in the face of emergencies and shed light on the need for more accessible child-centered emergency preparedness information.

The emergency preparedness campaign aims to address this issue by sharing easy to read and child-friendly infographics with emergency preparation and recovery assistance information for youth ages 13-18 and their families. The City of Houston Youth Ambassadors participated in the creation of some of the infographics, videos, and presentations (linked below).

The Mayor's Office Education and Youth Engagement also worked with The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) to adapt their information materials and promote campaigns through social media channels, city websites, and other online sources.
