Council Member Alejandra Salinas is providing 125 free portable air conditioning units to eligible Houstonians in need, helping vulnerable residents stay safe and cool during Houston's dangerous summer heat.

Who is eligible?

Qualifying individuals and households must be Houston residents and meet one of the below criteria:

Seniors (age 60 or older)
Low-income households
Disabled veterans
Individuals with disabilities
Families facing financial hardship (Examples include medical expenses, home foreclosure, employer lay-offs, etc. Hardship claims will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis)

Proof of eligibility for any category may be required.

How to apply?

Residents may apply for a free portable A/C unit through an online application form.

Those who need assistance applying or verifying eligibility can contact Council Member Salinas’ office at 832-393-3012.

Selected recipients will receive distribution details, including the date, time, and pickup location.

Important information:

One unit per household
Submission of this application does not guarantee approval or receipt of an A/C unit
Applications will close on August 31, 2026 or once the maximum capacity is reached
